Inhaled Corticosteroid (ICS)

  • Fortunately, there has been an increased success with inhaled steroids, which have fewer side effects than do the oral dose steroids
  • ICSs are the most effective long-term therapy available 
  • Some common inhaled steroids used are: 
    • Beclomethasone (Vanceril, Beclovent)
    • Budesonide (Pulmicort)
    • Flunisolide (AeroBid) Now off market June 30,2011
    • Fluticasone (Flovent)
    • Triamcinolone acetonide (Azmacort) Now off market December 31,2010 [10]
