  • Many institutions are finding it common to mix ipratropium bromide with albuterol and give the combined medications to the patient via the nebulizer. 
  • It is believed that these two medications have a synergistic effect that causes an increase in bronchodilation. 
  • The onset of action of Ipratropium occurs in 90 minutes, and albuterol begins working in 5 minutes [13].
  • Combivent Inhalation Aerosol will not be available after December 31, 2013 secondary to the use of CFCs as a propellant 
  • The FDA has approved Combivent Respimat (ipratropium bromide and albuterol sulfate) Inhalation which does not use CFCs
