In 1996 the New York City EMS protocol was instituted; this allowed EMS personnel to administer 125mg intravenous methylprednisolone as an option after discussion with a medical control physician
- Chart review of 219 patients diagnosed with asthma
- Over a 2 year period
- Of the patients who received prehospital steroids, none resulted in admission
- This study was a small sample size but demonstrates a potential for improved patient outcomes [25]
