First Trimester Bleeding
First, it should be noted that there are non-pregnancy specific causes of bleeding in the first trimester (or throughout the pregnancy) which include cervical polyps, friability, malignancy, and trauma. Infection of the vagina or cervix may cause spotting or bleeding, and vaginal trauma. Pregnancy-related causes include subchorionic hemorrhage, molar pregnancy, or simply idiopathic bleeding in a pregnancy that is viable.
