Prenatal treatment includes close maternal follow-up, either weekly or biweekly, beginning with the 24th week of gestation. Most mothers have their activity restricted if there is more than one fetus, and frequent assessment of growth of the fetuses should be performed by ultrasound. Additionally, non-stress tests should be performed beginning at the 36th week of gestation.
If the mother experiences preterm labor, it should be arrested with tocolytic drugs. The average delivery time for twins is 36 weeks" gestation.
If both heads are downward at presentation, known as vertex-vertex presentation, vaginal delivery is possible. However, vertex-transverse or vertex-breech positions both require cesarean section. |
