Risk factors for preeclampsia include a prior history of preeclampsia, age less than 15 years or greater than 35 year, hypertension, nulliparity, multiple gestations, renal disease, diabetes mellitus, obesity, vascular disease, and African-American ancestry. [5]
The only definitive cure for preeclampsia is delivery. If the mother is near term, induce delivery, but if preeclampsia is mild and the mother is far from term, prescribe activity restriction, frequent maternal exams to assess worsening symptoms; proteinuria and fetal nonstress tests should be performed twice each week. |
