Squatting allows gravity to help the mother, and the birth canal can open 20 to 30% more in the squatting position. If you see a heel in the birth canal, you know the delivery is a breech, and the squatting position will give you additional room to maneuver the child through the birth canal without damage. Kneel behind the mother and hold her back.
Another position is on all fours; some mothers instinctively gravitate to that position. If that is the case, stay behind her. |
