The endometrium of pregnancy is very specialized, and is known as the decidua. The decidua has three parts: one that is directly beneath the blastocyst implantation, another that overlies the enlarging blastocyst (as the fertilized oocyte is called), separating it from the rest of the uterine cavity, and finally the decidua parietals, which lines the rest of the uterus.
