Delivery of the Placenta
1. Prepare for the delivery of the placenta, which occurs from a few minutes to a half hour after delivery of the baby.
  • Before the placenta is delivered, blood will come from the vagina and the umbilical cord lengthens.
  • Prepare with a bowl close to the vagina.
  • The mother should sit up and push the placenta into the bowl. [18]

  • Rubbing the mother"s abdomen below the umbilicus firmly will help the bleeding to resolve. Continue to rub until the uterus feels about the size of a grapefruit in the lower abdomen.
