2. Have the mother sit on the edge of a bed or other firm surface, pulling her legs to her chest, and placing pillows or blankets where the child might fall.
3. Don"t touch the child until the head is delivered, even though the back and buttocks will be heading down. Touching the baby may cause the child to gasp while the head is in the amniotic fluid. A cool room may also cause the child to gasp.
4. Catch the baby after delivery of the head by grasping under the arms, and bringing it up to the mother"s chest, as noted above.
5. If the head doesn"t deliver in the push subsequent to delivery of the arms, ask the mother to squat and push.
