Field Assessment Stroke Triage for Emergency Destination (FAST-ED) is a smartphone app EMS providers can use to determine a patient's eligibility for intravenous tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) or endovascular treatment as well as appropriate transport decision. FAST-ED has an internal decision-making algorithm based upon the following:
- Age, last known well time, anticoagulant usage, motor weakness, gaze deviation, aphasia, hemineglect and anticoagulant usage
- Internal database on all regional stroke centers and their capabilities (tPA / endovascular)
- Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine real-time traffic and location to a suitable destination
