Diagnosis of Spontaneous Abortion
Spontaneous abortion is defined as the spontaneous loss of the fetus with natural expulsion of the fetus at less than 20 weeks" gestation. This is also known as a miscarriage or early pregnancy failure. Some causes include chromosomal abnormalities, and risk factors include infection, advanced maternal age, caffeine, alcohol, maternal chronic disease, and cigarette or cocaine use.
